Feeling Not Enough

When you're in a funk... things to do to shake it off

Today I came home and I was in a funk… I was feeling that sinking feeling in my gut of “not good enough”. My energy was contracted and low and I just had no motivation to do anything I promised myself I would do. This is a part of me that flares up from time to time, so I am familiar with the feeling and I have my ways to move through the feeling so I can raise my energy, feel good about keeping the commitments I made with myself earlier.

Here are some of the things I did to help tend to that part of me so I could go on with my day. My goal was to put out a Youtube video and write this post and then enjoy my evening with a beautiful beach walk, work out and end with a movie.

When I first got home I changed into my workout clothes as I knew I was heading for a walk after I posted the things I needed to do.

Then I put on some relaxing music. I like to listen in Binaural beats to shift my energy (especially when I am feeling low), but depending on my mood, it could be anything from classical to up beat pop.

I then sat at my kitchen island with my laptop took a big cleansing breath and got to work… not allowing myself to make any excuses. For me sometimes I can find I procrastinate doing things especially when I am feeling low… Giving myself permission to do other things to change my energy in hope to do it later. The real truth for me is that when later comes I am usually tired and want to just unwind. Then the work I promised myself I would do, doesn’t get done. So for me it is best to jump in, and get things done while I have the energy so I can enjoy the rest of the day.

Other things I have done;

Make yourself a motivating drink…. a nice cup of tea, sparkling water, fun latte, a glass of your favourite kombucha

Light a candle and incense…. I love creating a vibe and setting the scene with all my senses… music, scent, taste to me that is luxury

Set a timer, a lot of time things don’t take as long as we actually think they will take and we waste a lot of time in our heads thinking about the work and how long it will take. I edited/ posted a video and wrote this post in 1 hour.

If you have set the vibe, you have everything out, but you are still not feeling it… then you need to meet yourself with compassion. Acknowledge how you are feeling. Grab a journal… write out your feelings. Release you emotions you are holding in you body by bean bagging (listen to the Lively show podcast episodes I was on to learn about this), go for a short walk or move your body.

Sometimes it it just not the time to get work done, and that is okay occasionally, have compassion for yourself.

Remember life is supposed to be fun and enjoyed!
